The hill on the west side of the Main gate is called Futamiga Oka. This bell is placed on top of the hill. This great bell is the biggest bell in Kanto area and it was made in 1913 with 16,000 people’s donations, their wishes and blessings.

This bell is scripted by the 4th abbot Rev. Sodo Ishikawa Zenji, and this project was promoted by the 9th abbot Rev. Dokai Ito Zenji.

Since 1995, it is designated as a cultural property of Yokohama city.

Weighing 18.75 tons, it has been rung every day since 1915. Moreover on New Year Eve visitors are allowed to ring this bell.
